Prayer for the Poor (St. Vincent de Paul)

Lord, help me to make time today to serve you in those who are most in need of encouragement or assistance. Grant that I may see you in the poor, and love you in them, overcoming my resistance and my disgust, for it is you whom I serve. Make me kind and gentle, so that not one of them shall go away from me the worse for having come. Give me the grace to bear their moods and their misery, and to see, beneath the rags, the person for whom Christ died. Amen.
