The Act of Hope
O my God, relying on thy almighty power
and infinite mercy and promises,
I hope to obtain pardon of my sins,
the help of thy grace,
and life everlasting,
through the merits of Jesus Christ, my Lord and Redeemer. Amen.
Traditional Act of Hope
About the prayer
The second of the three traditional Acts, the Act of Hope names precisely what a Christian is entitled to expect: forgiveness, grace to keep going, and eternal life — none of it earned, all of it on the strength of Christ. It has been taught in catechisms for four centuries and is prayed by the sick, the dying, and the discouraged. Pray it when the future feels closed, or when despair, rather than doubt, is the real temptation.
