The Act of Faith
O my God, I firmly believe
that thou art one God in three divine Persons,
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
I believe that thy divine Son became man
and died for our sins,
and that he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe these and all the truths
which the holy Catholic Church teaches,
because thou hast revealed them,
who canst neither deceive nor be deceived. Amen.

About the prayer
The Acts of Faith, Hope, and Love are three short prayers corresponding to the theological virtues, formalised in catechisms from the sixteenth century onward and popularised in penny catechisms and prayer books through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The Act of Faith is prayed on waking, before receiving the sacraments, and in moments of doubt. It is not a claim to feel certain; it is a deliberate act of the will, choosing to stand on what has been revealed rather than on how the day happens to feel.
