The oldest and simplest Christian prayer of all, traced by Tertullian around AD 200, who wrote that Christians of his day traced the cross on their foreheads at every coming and going.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

About the prayer
Made with the right hand from forehead to breast, then left shoulder to right in the Latin Rite, it opens and closes nearly every Catholic prayer and every celebration of the Mass. It is at once a creed — naming the three Persons of the Trinity — and a claiming of the Christian as belonging to the crucified Christ.
