The Act of Love
O my God, I love thee above all things,
with my whole heart and soul,
because thou art all good and worthy of all my love.
I love my neighbour as myself
for the love of thee.
I forgive all who have injured me,
and ask pardon of all whom I have injured. Amen.
Traditional Act of Love
About the prayer
The Act of Love is the third of the traditional Acts and the most demanding, because it does not stop at loving God: it commits the one praying to love their neighbour, to forgive everyone who has hurt them, and to ask forgiveness of everyone they have hurt. Taught in catechisms since the Counter-Reformation, it is prayed at night as part of the examination of conscience and before confession. Pray it when a grudge has taken root, or as a daily discipline of keeping short accounts.
