Padre Pio's Prayer to Jesus

Padre Pio bore the wounds of Christ from 1918 until his death in 1968, along with lifelong illness and long periods of Church-imposed restriction. This prayer comes out of that experience, and it is drawn from his letters and the devotional collections gathered by his Capuchin community and the Padre Pio Devotions apostolate.

It does not ask for suffering to be removed. It asks for strength when "my weak nature rebels," and then for something bolder: to cooperate with Christ in the work of salvation by uniting one's own pain to His. That was the heart of Padre Pio's spirituality — what the tradition calls redemptive suffering.

People pray it in chronic illness, in grief, during a long trial that will not lift, and on Fridays or during Lent when the Passion is the focus of devotion.
