A Prayer Before Surgery

God of life, tomorrow I will be in other people's hands, and I want it to be yours. Steady me tonight. Take the fear that comes at three in the morning. Guide the surgeon's hands and the whole team around the table. Watch over the hours I will not remember. Bring me safely through, and give my family peace while they wait. Into your hands I commend my spirit. Amen.
