A Prayer for a Difficult Family Relationship

Lord, you know the person I am thinking of, and you know how long this has gone on.
I bring you the old wound and the fresh one.
Heal what I keep reopening by telling the story to myself.
Give me a charity that does not depend on being understood.
Where reconciliation is possible, prepare the way.
Where it is not yet possible, guard my heart from bitterness and give me wise limits held without cruelty.
Bless them, Lord, even now. And bless me, so I can mean it. Amen.
