A modern prayer for the scrupulous and the self-condemning, built on Romans 8:1.
Lord, I have carried the weight of what I have done long after You laid it down.
You have forgiven me; teach me to stop accusing what You have acquitted. Silence the voice that condemns, for there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Let me receive Your mercy not as a debt, but as a gift. Amen.

About the prayer
The Christian tradition distinguishes godly sorrow, which leads to repentance and life, from worldly sorrow, which only crushes (2 Corinthians 7:10). This prayer asks for the first and renounces the second, and is often prayed by those who believe God has forgiven everyone but themselves.
