A Prayer for a Marriage
This prayer comes from the marriage rite of the Book of Common Prayer, whose central petitions Thomas Cranmer composed in 1549 and later revisions refined.
O gracious and everliving God,
who hast created us male and female in thine image:
look mercifully upon this man and this woman
who come to thee seeking thy blessing.
Give them wisdom and devotion in the ordering of their common life,
that each may be to the other a strength in need,
a counsellor in perplexity, a comfort in sorrow,
and a companion in joy.
Grant that their wills may be so knit together in thy will,
and their spirits in thy Spirit,
that they may grow in love and peace with thee
and with one another all the days of their life;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

About the prayer
The lines asking that each spouse be "a strength in need, a counsellor in perplexity, a comfort in sorrow, and a companion in joy" are among the most quoted words in English wedding services. It is prayed at weddings and anniversaries, but just as often by married people in a hard season who want to ask for the marriage rather than argue about it.
