A Prayer for a Grieving Heart

God of all comfort, the person I love is gone and the world has not stopped. I do not want to be told this is for the best. I want to know that you see it, that their life mattered, that love is not wasted. Sit with me in this. Let me weep without apologizing. Guard me from the guilt that keeps me awake at three in the morning. Give me strength for ordinary days, and hold them safe in your mercy until we meet again. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. Amen.
