Reparation for blasphemy is the specific purpose for which the Holy Face devotion was given.

O most adorable Face of Jesus, insulted, spat upon, and struck for love of us, I adore Thee, I love Thee, I bless Thee. For every blasphemy uttered against Thy holy Name, I offer Thee praise. For every curse against Thy Church and her ministers, I offer Thee homage. For every profanation of Thy holy day, I offer Thee the worship of my heart. Blessed be God. Blessed be His Holy Name. Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true Man. Blessed be the Name of Jesus. O Jesus, wipe away the offenses of the world with the sacred linen of Thy mercy, and write Thy Name upon our hearts. Amen.

About the prayer

In the revelations at Tours (1843-1847), Our Lord told Sister Marie of St. Peter that blasphemy was "a poisoned arrow" continually wounding Him, and that acts of praise offered in reparation would draw down mercy on the guilty. This prayer follows the classic reparation pattern: each insult is answered by a corresponding act of praise, closing with the Divine Praises, which Fr. Luigi Felici composed in 1797 for the same purpose and which were later attached to Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament. It is traditionally prayed after hearing the Holy Name misused, on Fridays, and during Lent.
