O Jesus, who in Thy bitter Passion didst not turn away Thy Face from those who wounded it, look now with pity upon the sinners of the world. By that Face disfigured for love of them, by the tears that fell upon it, by the blood that stained it, recall them to Thyself. Soften the hardened, enlighten the blind, awaken the careless, and bring home the wanderer. Let no soul be lost for whom Thou hast suffered so much. And for those most in need of mercy, who this day will stand before Thee, show them Thy Face, O Lord, that they may be saved. Amen.

About the prayer

Peter that acts of reparation offered through His Holy Face would win the conversion of sinners, and members of the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face at Tours made this intention the second great object of the devotion after reparation itself. This prayer follows that tradition: it does not ask for the sinner's punishment but appeals to the very wounds sinners inflicted, asking Christ to convert rather than condemn. Venerable Leo Dupont, who spread the devotion from his home in Tours after 1851, recorded countless requests for conversions and healings brought to the lamp he kept burning before the Holy Face image. The prayer is fittingly used for family members who have left the faith, for the intention of a Lenten sacrifice, and alongside the Golden Arrow.
