Offering of the Holy Face to the Eternal Father
This short offering is the heart of the Holy Face devotion and the prayer most often repeated by members of the Archconfraternity of the Holy Face at Tours.
Sr. Marie of St. Peter, Life and Revelations (Tours, 1884)
About the prayer
It follows an ancient scriptural logic — "Behold, O God our protector, and look on the face of thy Christ" (Psalm 83:10, Douay) — asking the Father to see the wounded Face of the Son rather than the sins of the one praying. Sister Marie of St. Peter recorded that Our Lord promised those who offer His Face to the Eternal Father would obtain the conversion of sinners and be themselves preserved from many evils. It is customarily prayed each morning, at the elevation during Mass, and for the dying, and can be said in a single breath, which is why it became a favorite ejaculation among the faithful of nineteenth-century France.
