A medieval Franciscan antiphon traditionally prayed during epidemics and associated with the Poor Clares of Coimbra during the plague of 1317.
Star of heaven, who nourished the Lord and rooted up the plague of death which our first parents planted: may that star now deign to restrain the constellations whose strife grants the people the ulcers of a dreadful death.
O glorious star of the sea, save us from pestilence. Hear us, O Lady, for thy Son, denying thee nothing, honors thee. Save us, O Jesus, for whom the Virgin Mother prays to thee.

About the prayer
It became especially widespread during later outbreaks. Its historical language reflects medieval cosmology, but its enduring use is as a Marian plea in times of contagious disease.
