The Hail Mary
The first half of this prayer is drawn straight from Scripture: the greeting of the angel Gabriel at the Annunciation (Luke 1:28) and Elizabeth's words at the Visitation (Luke 1:42).
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

About the prayer
The closing petition developed over centuries and was fixed in its present form in the 16th century. It is the building block of the Rosary and one of the most-prayed prayers in the world.
