HOW TO PRAY THE SCRIPTURAL ROSARY Before each Hail Mary, read one short line of Scripture belonging to the mystery. The verse holds the mind on the scene while the prayer continues. Ten verses for ten beads. THE JOYFUL MYSTERIES 1. The Annunciation — Luke 1:26-38. "Behold the handmaid of the Lord." 2. The Visitation — Luke 1:39-56. "Blessed art thou among women." 3. The Nativity — Luke 2:1-20. "She brought forth her firstborn son." 4. The Presentation — Luke 2:22-38. "A light to lighten the Gentiles." 5. The Finding in the Temple — Luke 2:41-52. "Did you not know that I must be about my Father's business?" THE LUMINOUS MYSTERIES 1. The Baptism of the Lord — Matthew 3:13-17. "This is my beloved Son." 2. The Wedding at Cana — John 2:1-11. "Do whatever he tells you." 3. The Proclamation of the Kingdom — Mark 1:14-15. "Repent and believe." 4. The Transfiguration — Luke 9:28-36. "His face shone as the sun." 5. The Institution of the Eucharist — Luke 22:14-20. "This is my body, given for you." THE SORROWFUL MYSTERIES 1. The Agony in the Garden — Luke 22:39-46. "Not my will, but thine, be done." 2. The Scourging — John 19:1. "He was wounded for our transgressions." 3. The Crowning with Thorns — Matthew 27:27-31. "Hail, King of the Jews." 4. The Carrying of the Cross — Luke 23:26-32. "Weep not for me." 5. The Crucifixion — John 19:25-30. "It is finished." THE GLORIOUS MYSTERIES 1. The Resurrection — Matthew 28:1-10. "He is not here; he is risen." 2. The Ascension — Acts 1:6-11. If a verse stops you, stay there; the Rosary is not a race, and one mystery prayed deeply is worth five prayed hurriedly.
