A Prayer for Children
A prayer for the young and for those raising them, adapted from the Book of Common Prayer's prayers "For Young Persons" and "For the Care of Children.
Almighty God, heavenly Father,
you have blessed us with the joy and care of children:
give us calm strength and patient wisdom
as we bring them up,
that we may teach them to love whatever is just and true and good,
following the example of our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Guard them from all danger of body and soul,
and grant that they may grow in grace,
in the knowledge and love of you,
and in favour with all people;
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

About the prayer
" Christian households have prayed some form of it since the earliest centuries; the specific request for "calm strength and patient wisdom" reflects an honest awareness that parenting tests both. It is prayed at baptisms, at bedtime over a sleeping child, at the start of a school year, and by parents of grown children who can no longer protect them directly.
