A Prayer for Those in Harm's Way
A contemporary prayer for those in dangerous service, in the tradition of the Book of Common Prayer's prayers "For those in the Armed Forces" and Psalm 91, long known as the soldier's psalm.
Almighty God, protect all who stand between danger and the rest of us:
soldiers and sailors, firefighters and police, medics and rescuers, and all who serve far from home.
Shield them in the moment of danger.
Give them clear judgment under pressure and mercy toward those in their power.
Bring them home to the people who are counting the days.
And for those who do not return, receive them into your peace, and comfort all who mourn. Amen.
