Binding Prayer (Short Form)
The short binding prayer is the best-known text in the lay deliverance tradition and circulates widely in Catholic prayer books.
In the name of Jesus Christ, and by the power of His Cross and His Blood, I bind all evil spirits afflicting me — of the air, the water, the ground, the underground and the netherworld — and I bind their retaliation.
I break every curse, hex, spell, seal, ritual, sacrifice and evil wish directed against me, and I send them to the foot of the Cross, to be dealt with as Jesus Christ our Lord sees fit.
Mary, Mother of God, cover me with your mantle. Amen.

About the prayer
"Binding" here does not mean the lay person exercises the Church's power of adjuration; it is a petition that the Lord Himself restrain the enemy's activity, in the manner of Jude 1:9, where even the archangel Michael does not rebuke Satan on his own authority but says, "The Lord rebuke thee." The prayer ends by handing the whole matter over to Christ's judgment rather than presuming upon it.
