Prayer to St. Thérèse for a Difficult Decision
O little Thérèse of the Child Jesus,
who during your short life on earth
became a mirror of angelic purity,
of love strong as death,
and of wholehearted abandonment to God:
now that you rejoice in the reward of your virtues,
cast a glance of pity on me
as I stand before a choice I cannot see the end of.
Obtain for me the light I need
to know what God asks of me,
the courage to choose it,
and the peace to leave the outcome in his hands.
You promised to let fall a shower of roses;
send me some sign of your intercession,
and teach me your little way of trust,
which makes small things great
and hard things possible. Amen.

About the prayer
St. Thérèse of Lisieux (1873-1897), a Carmelite who died at twenty-four and was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1997, taught the 'little way' of confidence and self-surrender. She promised on her deathbed to 'let fall a shower of roses' from heaven, and for more than a century people facing decisions have asked her for a sign. This form belongs to the Carmelite devotional tradition surrounding her.
