Immaculate Heart of Mary, pierced by the sword of sorrow, I offer thee this day my prayer, my Communion, and the small penances of my hours, in reparation for the sins by which thy Heart is wounded. Teach me to keep thee company in the silence of thy sorrow, to see what thou didst see, to love the Son thou lovest, and to bring to Him the souls for whom He suffered. O Heart of Mary, refuge of sinners, have mercy on us. Amen. THE PRACTICE On the first Saturday of five consecutive months: 1. Go to confession (within eight days before or after is permitted). 2. Receive Holy Communion. 3. Pray five decades of the Rosary. 4. Keep company with Our Lady for fifteen minutes, meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary. All four are offered with the intention of making reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.

Fatima apparitions; Pontevedra, 10 December 1925 (Memoirs of Sister Lucia)

About the prayer

On 13 July 1917 the children at Fatima were told that God wished to establish devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in the world, and on 10 December 1925, at Pontevedra in Spain, Sister Lucia reported a further apparition in which the four conditions of the devotion were given: confession, Communion, five decades of the Rosary, and fifteen minutes of meditative company with Our Lady, on the first Saturday of five consecutive months, offered in reparation. The apparitions of Fatima were approved by the local bishop in 1930, and the devotion has been commended by successive popes. Its number — five — was explained as reparation for five kinds of offense against the Immaculate Heart. Like the First Fridays, it is a school of steady, repeated fidelity rather than a formula.
