Marian Prayers
The Green Scapular Prayer
This is the only prayer required by the Green Scapular devotion, given at Blangy in 1840 with the scapular itself.
Immaculate Heart of Mary,
pray for us now and at the hour of our death.
Immaculate Heart of Mary,
obtain for N. the grace of conversion,
the light to see, the courage to turn,
and the peace of a holy death.
Immaculate Heart of Mary,
pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

About the prayer
Its brevity is deliberate: it can be said in a breath, many times a day, and by someone praying on behalf of a person who has stopped praying altogether. The heart of it is the phrase "now and at the hour of our death," the same petition that closes the Hail Mary, asking that God's mercy reach a soul either in this life or at the last moment of it. Many who use the devotion insert the name of the person they are praying for in the second stanza.
