Prayer After Confession
A traditional thanksgiving prayed after absolution, while performing one's penance.
O almighty and most merciful God, who hast given me pardon for my sins and the strength of Thy grace, help me now to walk as a new creature.
Guard me from returning to what has been forgiven, and let the peace You have given me remain.
I thank Thee, Lord, for Thy mercy is everlasting. Amen.

About the prayer
The Church has always paired sorrow with gratitude: confession ends not in shame but in thanksgiving for mercy received, and in a resolution to live differently. St. Paul's image of the "new creature" (2 Corinthians 5:17) sits at the center of it.
