A contemporary pastoral prayer for those caring for the sick, the elderly, the disabled, or a family member in crisis, drawing on Isaiah 40:31 and Psalm 103.
Lord, I am tired in a way that sleep does not fix.
You see what no one else sees: the night hours, the small indignities, the patience I run out of and hate myself for.
Have mercy on me. I am not a machine and I never was.
Renew my strength like the eagle's.
Give me help I am willing to accept.
Let me love the person in my care without disappearing entirely.
And carry the part of this that is too heavy for me. Amen.
