Dear God, You generously blessed Your servant, St. Pio of Pietrelcina, with the gifts of the Spirit. You marked his body with the five wounds of Christ Crucified, as a powerful witness to the saving Passion and Death of Your Son. Endowed with the gift of discernment, St. Pio labored endlessly in the confessional for the salvation of souls. With reverence and intense devotion in the celebration of Mass, he invited countless men and women to a greater union with Jesus Christ in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. Through the intercession of St. Pio of Pietrelcina, I confidently beseech You to grant me the grace of (here state your petition). Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit. Padre Pio to intercede for a personal need.

This prayer was composed and promoted after Padre Pio's canonization in 2002 and is distributed by the Padre Pio Foundation of America and the Capuchin friars of San Giovanni Rotondo. It is not written by Padre Pio himself; it is a prayer addressed to God that asks for his intercession, in the same pattern the Church uses for every canonized saint.

Its structure recalls the marks of his life: the stigmata he bore for fifty years, the countless hours he spent hearing confessions, and his devotion to the Eucharist. After the petition, three Glory Be's are traditionally added, a practice Padre Pio himself encouraged among those who asked for his prayers. Many people pray it in a novena, once a day for nine days, when asking for a particular grace.
