Good St. Dymphna, great wonder-worker
in every affliction of mind and body,
I humbly implore your powerful intercession
with Jesus through Mary, the Health of the Sick,
in my present need.

St. Dymphna, martyr of purity, patroness of those
who suffer with nervous and mental afflictions,
beloved child of Jesus and Mary,
pray to them for me and obtain my request.
St. Dymphna, helper of the mentally afflicted,
pray for us.
St. Dymphna, comforter of the despondent,
pray for us.
St. Dymphna, renowned for many miracles,
pray for us.
Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, grant peace to my mind,
rest to my heart, and healing to whatever is broken in me. Amen.

About the prayer
St. Dymphna, according to a thirteenth-century account, was an Irish girl of the seventh century who fled her father's madness and was killed by him at Geel in Belgium. Geel became a place of care for the mentally ill from the Middle Ages onward — townspeople took patients into their homes, a practice that continues today — and Dymphna has long been invoked as patroness of those who suffer anxiety, depression, and mental illness.
