Prayer to St. Rita, Patron of Impossible Causes
O holy patroness of those in need,
St. Rita, so humble, so pure, so devoted
in your patience with a difficult marriage
and so full of love for your crucified Lord:
intercede with him for me,
for he refuses you nothing.
Be kind to me for the greater glory of God,
and I promise to honor you
and to sing your praises for ever.
O glorious St. Rita, who miraculously participated
in the sorrowful Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ,
obtain for me the grace to suffer with resignation
the troubles of this life,
and protect me in all my needs. Amen.

About the prayer
St. Rita of Cascia (1381-1457) endured an abusive marriage and the violent deaths of her husband and sons before entering the Augustinian convent at Cascia, where she bore a wound on her forehead from the crown of thorns for the last fifteen years of her life. Because so much of what she asked for seemed beyond hope, she is invoked as patroness of impossible causes, of abused wives, and of difficult marriages. She was canonized in 1900.
