Breaking the Spirit of Death
Lord Jesus Christ, You are the Resurrection and the Life. By the power of Your Cross and Your Precious Blood, I renounce and reject every spirit of death that has come upon me or my family.
I renounce every wish for death, every despair, every thought of suicide, every fascination with darkness, and every word spoken over us that carried death.
Break its power, Lord. Speak life over us as You spoke life over Lazarus. Let us choose life, that we and our children may live.
Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Living, pray for us. Amen.

About the prayer
A prayer against what deliverance ministry calls "the spirit of death" — the settled interior orientation toward despair and self-destruction, which pastoral practice distinguishes from clinical depression while insisting the two often overlap and that medical care must never be set aside. Its images are scriptural: Christ at the tomb of Lazarus (John 11:25), and the covenant summons of Deuteronomy 30:19, "I have set before you life and death; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live."
