Let God Arise (Prayer of the Precious Cross)
One of the central protective prayers of the Christian East, prayed at Compline and at the blessing of the cross, and often at bedtime in Orthodox and Eastern Catholic households.
Let God arise, and let His enemies be scattered; let those who hate Him flee from before His face.
As smoke vanishes, so let them vanish; as wax melts before the fire, so let the demons perish before those who love God and who sign themselves with the sign of the Cross, and who say in gladness:
Rejoice, most precious and life-giving Cross of the Lord, for thou drivest away the demons by the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, who was crucified on thee, went down to hell and trampled on the power of the devil, and gave us thee, His honorable Cross, for driving away all enemies.
O most precious and life-giving Cross of the Lord, help me, with the holy Lady Virgin Mother of God and with all the saints, unto the ages. Amen.

About the prayer
It opens with Psalm 68:1, the verse the Church has used against evil since antiquity, and it addresses the Cross itself in the poetic manner of Byzantine hymnography — not as an object of worship, but as the instrument through which Christ despoiled the powers (Colossians 2:15).
