Marian Prayers
Prayer to Our Lady of Mount Carmel
O most beautiful Flower of Mount Carmel,
fruitful Vine, Splendor of Heaven,
Blessed Mother of the Son of God,
Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity.
O Star of the Sea, help me and show me here thou art my Mother.
O Mary, Queen of Carmel,
who didst give thy holy habit to thy children,
watch over all who wear it.
Keep us faithful in prayer,
patient in trial,
and pure in heart.
Lead us at last to the mountain of the Lord,
where thy Son lives and reigns for ever and ever. Amen.

About the prayer
Our Lady of Mount Carmel takes her title from the mountain range in northern Israel where the prophet Elijah confronted the prophets of Baal and where, centuries later, hermits settled in imitation of him. Those hermits became the Carmelite Order in the early thirteenth century, taking Mary as their patroness and calling her the Flower of Carmel. The opening lines of this prayer are the traditional "Flos Carmeli," ascribed by Carmelite tradition to St. Simon Stock. The feast is celebrated on 16 July, and this prayer is commonly used on that day, on the sixteenth of each month, and by anyone enrolled in the Brown Scapular.
