For Breaking the Wall Built Up Around the Heart
Lord Jesus Christ, You know the wall I have built around my heart. I built it to keep out pain, and it has kept out You.
I ask You to break it down, stone by stone, as gently or as swiftly as You judge best. Where I have hardened myself out of fear, give me courage. Where I have closed myself out of hurt, give me healing. Where I have withdrawn out of pride, give me humility.
Take from me the heart of stone and give me a heart of flesh. Make my heart like Yours — open, wounded and alive. Amen.

About the prayer
A prayer for the interior hardening that follows deep hurt, which spiritual directors and deliverance ministers alike identify as one of the most persistent obstacles to grace: not sin exactly, but a defensive closure of the heart that also shuts out God. Its central petition is quoted directly from Ezekiel 36:26 — "I will take out of your flesh the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh" — and its final line echoes the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, pierced and open.
